Stanley Curtis

Session: Keyed Trumpet: Beyond the Concertos of Haydn and Hummel

Stanley Curtis has developed a career as a trumpeter, teacher, composer and early-music performer. After studying at the University of Alabama, the Cleveland Institute of Music and in the Netherlands on a Fulbright Scholarship, he received his Doctor of Music from Indiana University in 2005. In 1996, he won third prize in the ITG Altenburg International Baroque Trumpet Competition. He has taught at George Mason University and served as Historic Trumpet Division chair of the National Trumpet Competition. Having retired from a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C., he was appointed trumpet professor at Colorado State University in 2018. Robert Apple

Session: Keyed Trumpet: Beyond the Concertos of Haydn and Hummel (co-presenter)

Dr. Robert Apple earned a B.M. and M.M. in modern trumpet performance from the University of Central Florida in 2011 and the University of Central Florida in 2013 respectively, and completed a Ph.D. in musicology at the University of Memphis in 2022, where he also completed graduate certificates in early music and museum studies in 2023. In 2018, he was awarded a Fulbright-Mach Award for doctoral candidates, which allowed him to live in Austria for nine months to continue his research into the music composed for the keyed trumpet. Dr. Apple has also partnered with Friedemann Immer to produce modern editions of several of the keyed trumpet works that he discusses in his dissertation on the music composed for the keyed trumpet, all of which are published through Martin Schmid Blechbläsernoten.
