Michael Gause

University Professor Spotlight Recital

Michael Gause is the Assistant Professor of Trumpet in the School of Music at the University of Iowa. Michael’s performance experience includes serving as the principal trumpet of the Battle Creek Symphony, third cornet in the Brass Band of Battle Creek, and performing with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Opera, Detroit Chamber Winds, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, Lansing Symphony, West Michigan Symphony, Saginaw Bay Symphony, and Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. He has also been a featured soloist performing the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto with the University of Iowa Symphony Band and the Chaynes Trumpet Concerto with the Michigan State Symphony Orchestra.

Hailing from Texas, Michael spent his high school summers at the St. Mary’s Brass studying with John Carroll, Principal Trumpet of the San Antonio Symphony. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas where he performed with the Center for Chamber Music Brass Quintet. Under the tutelage of Scott Thornburg and Dr. Robert White, he performed as a graduate assistant with the Graduate Brass Quintet at Western Michigan University receiving his master’s degree, and is currently completing doctoral work at Michigan State University with Justin Emerich. Prior to coming to Iowa, Michael held adjunct teaching positions at Olivet College and Saginaw Valley State University. Michael spends his summers teaching at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
