Chief Musician Jonathan Barnes, a native of the Baltimore area, joined the Navy Band in 2012. After earning a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies from Rowan University, he went on to study with Jon Faddis and Scott Wendholt at Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a Master of Music in jazz performance. Splitting his time between New York City and Philadelphia, he has performed with diverse artists such as Bernadette Peters, Simone, John Fedchock, and Dick Oatts. In addition, he has recorded with the Grammy-nominated Bobby Sanabria Big Band and, most recently, for the soundtrack of Ken Burns’ documentary on the Roosevelts. Always willing to share his passion for music, he has taught masterclasses, private lessons, and courses in music theory and music appreciation at Rowan University. In his free time, Barnes enjoys biking, kayaking, cooking, and spending time with family.

Musician 1st Class Thomas Eby, a native of South Bend, Indiana, joined the Navy band in 2014 and serves as a trumpeter in the Commodores jazz ensemble. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music in music education from Elmhurst College, near Chicago, where he studied trumpet, jazz theory, composition and piano with Chicago greats Mark Colby, Frank Portolese, Frank Caruso, Doug Beach, Matt Lee and Rob Parton. As a member of the Elmhurst College Jazz Band, Eby had the opportunity to take seven European tours and play with countless jazz professionals and educators including Clark Terry, Bobby Shew, the New York Voices, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Patti Austin, Byron Stripling and many more. Eby earned his Master of Music in jazz trumpet performance from the University of North Texas studying under Jay Saunders, Mike Steinel and Rodney Booth. While in Dallas, he was selected as trumpet soloist for the Disney All-American College Band (2007), toured Australia/Southeast Asia/Pacific Island with Princess Cruises (2008), and performed as a lead trumpet player, soloist and horn writer in top 40 bands, recording studios and churches. He also did extensive work as an educator and clinician throughout Dallas/Ft. Worth, but always made time to pursue his deepest love, the big band genre, performing with Wayne Bergeron, Phil Woods, Bobby Timmons, Arturo Sandoval, Roger Ingram, John Fedchock and Clay Jenkins, among others. When he is not playing or writing for the Commodores, he enjoys spending time with family, cooking, training his dog and going to baseball games.

Musician 1st Class Ally Albrecht, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, joined the Navy Band in 2021 and serves as a trumpet player in the Commodores jazz ensemble. She is a 2014 graduate of the University of North Texas, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies. In 2017, she received a Masters of Music in Jazz Arts from the Manhattan School of Music. Her teachers include Tony Kadleck, Scott Wendholt, and Jay Saunders. Albrecht played jazz trumpet in the Grammy nominated One O’Clock Land Band at the University of North Texas, and has also performed with the DIVA Jazz Orchestra, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Jim Widner Big Band, Maria Schneider, and Wycliff Gordon, as well as her own quintet, which released their first album, Journeys Ahead, in 2016. She was the second place winner of the 2017 National Trumpet Competition (Jazz Division).
In 2017, Albrecht joined the US Air Force Band of the Golden West, stationed at Travis AFB, California, where she performed with the big band and concert band, and was the musical director of the jazz combo. Her duties also included composing and arranging for a variety of different groups and styles. Some of the highlights from her time in the band include being a soloist with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl, playing on ESPN Live for Monday Night Football, and performing her own compositions at the Monterey Jazz Festival. She was named the unit’s Musician of the Year in 2018.

Musician 1st Class Andrew Bezik, born in Japan and raised in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, joined the Navy Band in 2020 as a trumpet instrumentalist with the Commodores jazz ensemble. Originally from Arlington, Texas, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Music from Northwestern State University in Louisiana and a Master of Music in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, he was a member of the Wind Symphony, the Concert Orchestra and the Two O’Clock Lab Band. His teachers include Galindo Rodriguez, Keith Johnson and Jay Saunders. In 2011, Bezik was selected as the lead player for the Disneyland All American College Band, and from 2014-2016, he had the opportunity to tour the country twice, playing two musicals: “Guys and Dolls” and “The Producers.” After touring, he settled in Dallas where he was an active freelancer covering a variety of musical styles. He also performed with Imperial Brass, Las Colinas Symphony, the Allen Philharmonic, the Unity Orchestra, the Fort Worth Jazz Orchestra and the American Composers’ Jazz Orchestra. In 2017 Bezik became a member of the core orchestra of Dallas Summer Musicals, playing local tour shows “White Christmas,” “Something Rotten,” “Chicago,” “Les Misérables,” “The Book of Mormon,” “Hello Dolly,” “Aladdin,” “Miss Saigon,” “Anastasia” and more. He has also recorded for Patti LaBelle’s Christmas CD, “Home For the Holidays.” In his free time, Andrew enjoys video games, hiking, and hanging out with his dog.
