Les Trompettes de Lyon

Concert

For their “Carte Blanche” concerts, the Trompettes de Lyon draw on their vast repertoire, from  the orchestra’s great classics to excerpts from famous operas,

From French chanson to modern fantasies and musicals, the musicians are determined to make their distinctive instrumentation sound its very best. We travel with them, rediscovering the  “big” as well as the “small” repertoires, in arrangements that are often original and inevitably surprising.

Only trumpets, but all trumpets! And yet you think you’re hearing a full orchestra…

Founded in 1989, the Ensemble’s instrumentation is unique in the world, featuring some fifteen instruments with very different sounds, from piccolo trumpet to bass trumpet, cornet,  flugelhorn, and even tenor trumpet.

The Ensemble has grown stronger through classical concerts and participation in various festivals in France and abroad. In November 1999, it was invited by international soloist  Maurice ANDRÉ for a joint concert at the Basilique de Fourvière in Lyon.

In 1997, in addition to their classical career, they began producing staged musical performances, a veritable vagabond between music and theater.

They created TROMPE L’ŒIL, directed by Udo STAF, followed by CANARD LAQUÉ, then  SANS TAMBOUR NI TAMBOUR, TOUT S’ARRANGE, then the 30th anniversary show AVIS  DE TROMPETTES, directed by François ROLLIN, and finally L’AUDITION, directed by  Patrice LECONTE (very well-known French filmmaker). These shows will open the doors to major stages (Scènes Nationales, Olympia, Théâtre du Rond Point Champs Elysées, Grand Rex cultural centers…), comedy festivals (Montreux Auditorium Stravinsky, Morges sous Rire,  Paris fait sa Comédie, Cannes, Saint-Gervais) and prestigious galas. They will cross paths with,  or have the opportunity to accompany, a number of French show-business celebrities…

In July 2010, they performed in Sydney (Australia) at the invitation of the INTERNATIONAL  TRUMPET GUILD ITG, an institution which brings together the best trumpet players and which had already invited them to the USA in 2003 and again in 2016 in Los Angeles. In 2014,  they embarked on a tour of the United States, playing some thirty concerts to great acclaim every night. In June 2023, they were again invited to play in Minneapolis to enthusiastic, packed houses.

As their popularity grows, they maintain their more classical concerts and an activity aimed at the amateur world and young audiences. They have also collaborated in the past with the  Selmer & Cie (Paris), and since 2013 with Buffet Crampon (B&S, Scherzer, Courtois, Besson).
