
Steve Leisring

Steve Leisring is Professor of Trumpet and Associate Dean for Global Engagement in the School of Music, the University of Kansas. Since arriving at the University in 2003, he has been invited as a guest professor and performer in more than 20 countries around the world, in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. After performing with the Tenerife (Spain) Symphony for 14 years, he has since appeared as a guest Principal Trumpet with the Kansas City Symphony, RTVE Orchestra (Spain), ShenZhen, Tianjin, and Harbin Symphony orchestras in China as well as the Tokyo Symphony in Japan. Additionally, he has performed with the Dallas, Milwaukee, San Diego Symphonies in the US, Spanish National Orchestra, Galicia, Gran Canaria and Madrid Symphony Orchestras of Spain, Gothenburg (Sweden) Symphony with Neemi Jarvi, and been a soloist with the Kalisz Philharmonic (Poland) Maryland Symphony, as well as the Sichuan and Harbin Symphonies in China.
Leisring has performed with Ellis and Delfeayo Marsalis at Tanglewood and has been a featured soloist with the University of Kansas Jazz Ensemble 1 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and at the Montreux (Switzerland), Jazz a Vienne (France), and Umbria(Italy) Jazz Festivals. His former students have held Principal positions in the National Orchestras of Spain and Latvia, Tokyo Symphony, CCOM and Harbin Symphonies in China, Charleston Symphony, US Navy Band, Danish Navy Band, Dallas Brass, Des Moines Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, etc, and have been finalists in national and international competitions. Former students have also performed as guests with the NY Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, the India National Orchestra, Puerto Rico Symphony, US Army Bands, among others. He is a Bach Conn Selmer Artist.
