Sharon Villegas

Piano 

Costa Rican pianist Sharon Villegas has built a diverse career spanning solo performance, chamber music, jazz, and Latin music. She has performed in prestigious concert halls across the United States, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, México, Guatemala, Honduras, Panamá, and Colombia. 

In 2022, she earned a Professional Performance  Certificate in Collaborative Piano from Lynn University under the tutelage of Professor Lisa Leonard, and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Music at the University of Costa Rica.

Her distinctions include an Honorable Mention at the  Musicalia International Piano Competition (Cuba), Third Prize at the National Society of Arts and  Letters Duo Competition (USA), and the Best Orchestral realization in 2021 at the Lynn Conservatory Concerto Competition.

In 2023, Sharon made her debut as a soloist at the National Theatre of Costa Rica, performing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Paraíso. 

As a collaborative pianist, she has shared the stage  with internationally renowned musicians such as Fabrice Millischer, Rubén Simeó, Toby Oft,  José Sibaja, Faustino Díaz, Guadalupe González, among others. 

Her discography includes collaborations with  distinguished Costa Rican composers and projects such as Doce Musas by Andrés Soto, La creación sin mañana by Susan Campos, Música para piano: Volúmen I by Carlos Escalante, and Cantata Negra by Marvin Camacho, this last one nominated for the 2023 Latin Grammy Award for Best Classical Album. 

She currently serves as a faculty member at the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica, where she combines her performance career with teaching and artistic collaboration.
