Mark Clodfelter enjoys a career of breadth and diversity. He is the Associate Dean of Professional and Continuing Studies at the University of Delaware and Principal Trumpet of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. In his role at UDPCS, Mark’s work is at the forefront of creating new on-ramps and alternative pathways to meaningful careers, ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds have access to opportunities that align with their aspirations. This work, driven by a deep commitment to lifelong learning and life enhancement, empowers people to upskill and reskill so they can reach their full potential in an evolving job market. Through innovative approaches to education and workforce development, Mark is dedicated to transforming careers, strengthening industries, and shaping a more future-ready economy.
Clodfelter’s academic career began at Mars Hill University, with subsequent appointments as Professor of Trumpet at the University of Kentucky, the University of North Carolina – Greensboro, and the University of Delaware. He also served UD as Director of the School of Music prior to his current appointment within the Graduate College. Throughout his journey, he has built internationally recognized trumpet programs, the students from which continue to achieve coveted awards and prestigious positions.
Mark’s 40-year performance career spans four continents, sharing the stage with renowned artists and contributing to multiple Grammy-recommended recordings. He has extensive experience with the recording industry as a performer, engineer, and producer, and is fluent in cutting edge music technology. As a creative entrepreneur, he specializes in arts-centric business ventures that serve communities and advance the arts. He also provides career consulting, is an active public speaker, and educational clinician.
