Manu Mellaerts

Concert

Manu Mellaerts studied the trumpet, chamber music, and pedagogy at the Lemmens-Institute in Leuven and the Brussels Conservatory. After having studied with P.Thibaud in Paris, R. Delmotte in Versailles, and E. Tarr in Basel, he won the Belgian “Tenuto” contest in 1985 and was among the laureates of the international trumpet competition in Toulon (Fr.) in 1987. 

From 1984 until 1986, he was the solo trumpet at the Flemish Radio orchestra. In ’87, he became 1st solo-trumpet at the National Opera House “La Monnaie “(Brussels) and professor at the Royal Brussels Conservatory. 

He performs with chamber music ensembles, works as a guest conductor with youth and wind orchestras, and as a soloist, he plays in many European countries, especially in the baroque and classical repertoire. For many years, he has played with the famous Belgian organ-player Luc Ponet and gives recitals with his wife, pianist Katrien Verbeke.

Manu Mellaerts is regularly invited as a teacher and performer in Europe, the U.K., Asia, and the U.S. He is the founder and artistic director of the brass ensemble BELGIAN BRASS and part of the Trumpet-Trio “G-Brass”, together with Slawomir Cichor (Poland) and Jose Chafer (Spain), accompanied by Luc Ponet (organ).
