Kyle Matthees

Utilizing Digital Audio Workstations in the Applied Trumpet Studio: Developing an Immersive Practice Space

Kyle Matthees is a trumpet performer and educator based in Mississippi. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where his doctoral project focused on the intersection of recording technology and applied pedagogy. His scholarly work has also appeared in the International Trumpet Guild Journal. 

Currently, Kyle serves as Instructor of Brass and Assistant Director of Bands at Jones College, where he teaches applied trumpet, coaches chamber brass ensemble, directs the jazz and commercial music ensemble, and assists with the athletic bands. His teaching philosophy centers on building self-sufficient learners through feedback-rich environments. 

Kyle maintains an active performing career spanning symphonic, chamber, and commercial settings, and has performed with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. His interest in recording technology extends beyond the teaching studio as well. His work as a remote session musician has placed his playing in projects for film, animation, and streaming media, including two Netflix productions: The Sneetches and Opa Cor.
