José Chafer is a trumpet teacher at Melcior Gomis Conservatory in Ontinyent, Spain, a Musical Research Master, and CIMVO Artistic Director.
In the XX CIMVO Festivals, Teach and Play with some of the most relevant brass players around the world like German Brass, Mnozil Brass, Belgian Brass, Adam Rapa, Erik Terwilliger, Franck Pulcini, Marco Pierobon, Ronald Romm, Dai Zhonghui, Manu Mellaerts, Jorge Almeida, Eric Aubier, Tim and Jessica Buzbee, Rex Richardson, Andrea Tofanelli, Richard Stoelzel, Alex Freund, etc…
Frequently travel as a guest performer and clinician to Universities and Festivals, including the USA, China, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and Poland. Has performed as a soloist at the 2013 and 2018 International Trumpet Guild Conference, IBBA2013 and 2017, China Trumpet Conference in 2014, 2016, and 2019, and the 1st and 2nd International Trumpet Conference in Lodz.
He has premiered concertos for trumpet and piano, solo trumpet and organ, two trumpets and organ, trumpet unaccompanied, two solo trumpets, solo trumpet and trumpet ensemble, for 2 trumpets and band, and for 4 trumpets and band, all written and dedicated to him in Europe and North America. Also, European premieres of Vizzutti and Stephenson works.
As an orchestral musician, he has performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona, Orquesta Sinfónica de Murcia, and Orquesta del Teatro Chapi.
As a chamber musician is the founder of Quórum Brass Quintet and Collage Brass Ensemble. And also performed with Barna Brass and Spanish Brass.
Chafer’s teachers have included Manuel López, Ernest Aparisi, Vicente Campos, Luis González, Eric Aubier, and Spanish Brass.
In September 2016 presented his second solo CD “Textures,” where he had various international guest artists and won two Silver Medals at the Global Music Awards in two different categories: Album and Instrumentalist. His first solo CD, “Spirit,” won in March 2016 the Global Music Awards Silver Medal for Classical Instrumentalist.
Is the founder of FourPipes – “the G-brass International Project”, where they played in Belgium, Spain, and Poland.
Monochromatic Duo is the last new Project together with Slawomir Cichor for two trumpets and recently launched their first CD, “One to One”.
