Eleni Matos

Soprano: Opening Concert

Miss Matos has received universal acclaim and hailed as a winner in an unprecedented thirty-four (34) of today’s most coveted vocal competitions (more than any classical singer) including the Maria Callas International competition of Greece, the Luciano Pavarotti International competition, and the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation. Miss Matos has sung throughout the world under the batons of such renowned conductors as Daniel Bareboim, Zubin Mehta, Jahja Ling, Neeme Jarvi, and Constantine Orbelian. Miss Matos appears in the film and PBS special, Defiant Requiem with Murry Sidlin.

Most recently, she performed The Mezzo solos in Paolo Micciche’s Artsconverge production The Last Judgement, Verdi’ Requiem in Yerevan, Armenia under the baton of Constantine Orbelian. She performed Verdi’s Requiem under the baton of Massimiliano Murrali in Sardinia, and Beethoven’s Ah perfido in Sofia, Bulgaria and Lviv, Ukraine under the baton of Benjamin Loeb. Miss Matos has also appeared in the 3rd International Women in Music festival with collaborative pianist Rebecca Wilt in the Lost Art songs of Luise Greger. Last season saw Miss Matos perform Des Knabem Wunderhorn with the New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria and with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra. Roles sung by Miss Matos include the title role of Carmen, Margeruite Berlioz La Damnation de Faust, Paulina Pique Dame, Leonora La Favorita, Amneris Aida, Laura La Gioconda, Judith Bluebeard’s Castle, and Principessa in Adriana Lecouvreur. Eleni has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Polish National Opera, Opera festival New Jersey, and Opera Orchestra New York. Orchestral works include Beethoven’s Ah Perfido, Alexander Nevsky, Mahler 2nd Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Verdi Requiem, Frank Martin’s In Terra Pax Beethoven 9th, Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos, and the Bach b minor mass. She has graced the stage with the Virtuosi di Prague, Detroit Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Florida Orchestra, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Enriched by her strong Greek-American heritage, she was honored to sing the Verdi Requiem at the foot of Acropolis at Greece’s week-long remembrance of Maria Callas.
