something something trumpet

Our mission is to showcase the trumpet as a solo and chamber instrument and promote and develop the contemporary repertoire, while also presenting historical works in a way that contextualizes the instrument’s past and present.

The trumpet is a remarkably versatile instrument, with repertoire ranging from baroque concertos to contemporary noise music. The trumpet has been around for millennia, leading wars, waking people up, mourning the dead, harnessing the sound of angels, and accompanying Squid Game. It is (arguably) the most important instrument in history, and our job is to carry it into the future with the same level of commitment that Gottfried Reiche, Herbert Clarke, and Miles Davis gave it in the past.

Through our varied roster of musicians, we will make sure to deliver artistry at the highest level at every one of our concerts.

Dovas Lietuvninkas

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dovas Lietuvninkas received degrees in trumpet and music education at the Eastman School of Music where he studied with James Thompson. In 2017 he received a U.S. Fulbright grant to study trumpet and Lithuanian folk instruments in Vilnius, Lithuania, where, in 2018, he joined the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra as principal trumpet. In 2021 he received his master’s degree in trumpet from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under Pasi Pirinen and spent a year as a member of the academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

Dovas returned to the United States in 2023 and is currently principal trumpet of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Dovas is a passionate educator and advocate of new music, having commissioned and premiered many new works for trumpet, and is always seeking to cross boundaries and build bridges across all audiences and musics, from folk to the avant-garde.

Bailey Paugh

Rhode Island-based trumpeter Bailey Paugh aims to cross as many disciplinary boundaries as  possible. As a performer and researcher, she is interested in the relationships between body,  instrument, and technology, as well as multi-media and intertextuality, and enjoys playing  music from pop and rock to jazz, classical, and the avant-garde.

A Licensed Body Mapping Educator since 2019, Bailey works with musicians to connect  movement and sound to improve technique, give freer and more embodied performances, and  prevent injury. She has given Body Mapping workshops, clinics, and masterclasses across the  U.S. and presented her research on the use of Body Mapping in trumpet pedagogy as part of  the Association for Body Mapping Education’s webinar series. Bailey has also taught music  theory at Portland State University and with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, maintains a  private studio of trumpet and other brass students, and has presented research on gender and the country music industry at the SHE Festival of Women in Music.

Bailey holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (DMA, BM) and Portland State  University (MM) where she studied with James Thompson and Dave Bamonte.
