Enjoying the Audition Circuit: Insights from a Young Professional
Musician 1st Class Alison Marseglia is the newest member of the United States Coast Guard Band trumpet section, a position that she won at age twenty. She attended Baylor University where she worked with Wiff Rudd and Mark Schubert, graduating early with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree in December, 2023. In the spring of her junior year, Alison won first prize in both the National Trumpet Competition’s Denny Edlebrock Military Excerpt Division, and the International Trumpet Guild’s Ryan Anthony Memorial Competition: Orchestral Excerpt Division.
As a student, Alison was an active freelancer in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, performed with the symphonies of Waco, Austin, and Alabama, and presented masterclasses at the University of North Texas and the University of Alabama. She has attended the Eastern Music Festival and the Brevard Music Center. Beyond trumpet, Alison enjoys arranging for brass quintet, playing the piano, reading, hiking, and exploring nature.
