Adán Delgado Illada

Adán Delgado Illada is a multifaceted artist who, aside from his work as principal trumpet of the Spanish National Orchestra, frequently engages in activities as soloist, pedagogue, and chamber musician.

Born in a little village, Chio in Tenerife, Adán began to study trumpet at the age of 8 in the local wind band. He continued his studies at the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands with Agustin Ramos and at the Orchestral Academy of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra with Stephen Leisring and Ingrid Rebstock. He further perfected his skills at master classes with M. André, G. Touvron, J. Miller, G. Cassone, J. Harjanne, the Spanish Brass, L. González, a.o. He has been a member of several prominent youth orchestras, such as the European Union Youth Orchestra, Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra, with which he has been touring extensively throughout Europe, gaining first-class orchestral experience early on.

Having previously occupied permanent positions at the City of Palma Orchestra (main conductor Philippe Bender) and the prestigious Palau de les Arts “Reina Sofia” (main conductors Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta), he went on to obtain the permanent position as principal trumpet of the Spanish National Orchestra in 2010 (current principal conductor David Afkham). Adán is often invited to perform as guest principal in other Spanish and international orchestras; his recent collaborations include Orchestra and Ensemble Leonore (Italy), Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Sinfonia Varsovia, Symphony Orchestra of India, Bucharest Philharmonic, and Cadaqués Orchestra, to name a few.

As a soloist, Adán has appeared on several occasions with orchestras such as the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata Sa Nostra, the Ensemble Villa de la Orotava, Orquesta Filarmonia de Madrid, the  Isola Classica Festival Orchestra, and the Spanish National Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he often performs with pianist Jaan Ots, is a member of the “brassONEquintet” and the trumpet ensemble “SOFT”.

As principal trumpet, he has performed under maestros Sir Neville Marriner, Neeme Järvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Paavo Järvi, Jan Pascal Tortellier, Bernard Haitink, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, James Conlon, Semyon Bychkov and C. Eschenbach, in concert halls such as Royal Albert Hall in London, Berlin Konzerthaus and Philharmonie, Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Seoul Arts Center, Teatro Juárez and Palacio de Bellas Artes (México), Opera House (Oman) and Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, among many others.

Adán Delgado is also actively involved in pedagogical work and is often invited to give master classes and recitals in Spain and abroad (Estonia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Mexico, and China, a.o.). Recently, he has given masterclasses at the prestigious Pärnu Music Festival’s Järvi Academy, The International Festival of Maspalomas and has been invited to the 48th Annual International Trumpet Guild Conference in Los Angeles (CA), where he gave a recital next to Miriam Hickman, including premiers by Mollà, Zapata and Martínez Campos, took part on the jury panel on the finals of the Orchestral Excerpts Competition and participated in
a trumpet session as well.

He annually serves as a jury member of the Spanish Youth Orchestra, and in 2017, he was the trumpet tutor at the European Union Youth Orchestra. He has worked as a trumpet professor at the Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of the Balearic Islands (2006-2014), where he currently continues as guest professor, and at the Higher Conservatory Katarina Gurska in Madrid (2016-2019). Currently a professor at Progreso Musical Higher Conservatory.
