Wiff Rudd has taught at Baylor University since 2002. During his tenure, he has received the Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching, was named Centennial Professor that resulted in the publication of Collaborative Practice Concepts and was the recipient of the Elizabeth Vardaman Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduates. His book, Side by Side: Building and Sustaining an Effective Community in the Music Studio, represents Wiff’s perspective on teaching and learning in community. He was honored to receive the ITG Award of Merit in 2022.
A founding member of Rhythm & Brass, he also maintains an active solo, chamber, and orchestral career. Wiff’s students are consistently successful in National Trumpet Competition and International Trumpet Guild competitions. Baylor’s trumpet ensembles have won 14 prizes at NTC including six first-place wins. Former students have attended notable graduate schools and festivals, are highly successful educators, and perform in orchestras and premiere/regional military bands.
