Julian Lupu

Session: From Romania with love

Julian Jupu studied solo trumpet and pedagogy at the “George Enescu” Academy of Music with Ioan Rusu. He attended master-classes and competitions, winning prizes at the National Competition of Interpretation in 1989, 1991, 1992 as well as at the competitions in Constanta (Romania) in 1992 and Bayreuth (Germany) in 1990. Having a vast repertoire, he has recorded the works of Dittersdorf, Haydn, Pichl, Mozart, Vivaldi and Rachmaninov in 4 CDs for Olympia, London. Lupu has performed in various Countries and cities including Napoli, Firenze, Parma, Palermo, Milano, Mazzara del Valle, Torino, Brescia, San Remo, Cesena (İtaly). Oradea, İaşi, Arad, Cluj, Bacau, Botosani, Timisoara, Bucharest (Romania), Rennes, Paris, Marseille, Nice (France), Laussane, Sion, Zürich, Bern (Switzerland), Köln, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Bamberg, Hannover, Berlin, Bonn, Lubeck, Kiel, Munich (Germany), Ankara, İstanbul, Eskişehir, İzmir, Adana, Bursa, Antalya, Mersin, Bodrum (Turkey), Barcelona, Madrid, Murcia, Valencia, Granada (Spain), Tokyo (Japan), London, Manchester, Leichester (England), Washington, San Francisco, Portland (America).

Enescu Music Festival, Istanbul Music Festival, Mersin Music Festival, Bodrum Music Festival, Ankara Music Festival, Salzburg Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, BBC Proms Festival 2014, Italian Brass Week 2013, Schagerl Brass Festival 2014, Sauerland Brass Festival 2016 and appeared as soloist with the leading conductors such Gürer Aykal, Ion Marin, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Neeme Järvi, Isin Metin, Serge Baudo, Alexander Dimitriev, Massimo Freccia, Jean Fournet, Howard Griffiths, Peter Gülke, Ernest Martinez İzguierdo, Nello Santi, Emil Tabakov, Yoel Levi, Vladimir Aschenazy.

Julian Lupu has performed J.B.G. Neruda ,A. Vivaldi  ,D. Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano and Trumpet, J.N. Hummel, J.Haydn, Enescu, Dinicu, Torelli, Telemann, Albinoni, Hummel, Purcell, Cords, Hubeau, Pauer, Thome, Hachaturian, Tomasi, Arutunian, Krijek, Korsakov, Scelokov, Goedicke, Vejvanovsky, Kriukov, Jolivet, Bozza, Arban, Clarke, Bohme.

In March 2017 he gave masterclass and concerts in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia. In April 2017 he played solo with Bursa Symphony Orchestra and gave masterclass in Uludag University – Turkey. Between 22-27 October 2017 he gave masterclass and solo concert in “Jazz Trumpet Festival” – Sao Paulo. In November 2017 played concert with Golden Horn Brass in Bucharest, Chisinau and Bellapais-  Cyprus. In November 2018 he gave masterclass in Rostock – Germany. In January 2019 he played solo concert with his son in Izmir and Antalya.In May 2019 he played concert in Lancut Festival – Poland, in June he had workshop in Bremen and concert in “Bran” Castel. In 2019 he will give masterclass and solo concert in Hildesheim – Germany. He is member of Golden Horn Brass for 14 years; give several concerts with this successfull quintet and took the Donizetti Prize in 2014.

Julian Lupu is a Thein Artist and trumpet teacher of Bilkent Music Department faculty and is Principal Trumpet with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra.
