Session: College Studio Recruiting 101: How to Effectively Recruit the Modern High School Trumpeter

Dr. John T. Cord is the Associate Professor of Music in Applied Trumpet, Brass Methods and Chamber Music at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Cord holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, a Master’s of Musical Arts degree from Yale University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas. Cord is currently a member of the LaCrosse Symphony Orchestra, the Norse Brass Quintet, and performs regularly with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, and the Dubuque Symphony. He has also performed with the Fort Worth Opera, the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra and has toured with the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey’s Circus Band. Cord released a solo trumpet album on the Mark Records recording label in 2018 entitled Beyond Borders. The album features a wide variety of music including contemporary, baroque, folk and jazz styles. Cord has presented recitals, clinics and master classes throughout the country as a Vincent Bach Trumpets performing artist. He has also appeared as a guest clinician, adjudicator and guest lecturer at several state and national music conferences such as the Iowa Bandmaster’s Association Convention, the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, The National Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Conference.
