Session: International Seminars For Brass Instruments – Kalavryta, Greece
Gerassimos Ioannidis was born in Athens, Greece and starting playing the trumpet at the age of 11. Later he continued and finished his studies in the “Hellenic Conservatory of Athens”. He has attended a lot of seminars in Switzerland, France, Germany, England, Sweden and Greece with famous professors.
He was a member of the Municipal Band of Athens (1971-1985) and Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra (1975-1993). From 1985 he was member of the National Opera of Athens until his retirement on January 2007. He has also taught courses in Greece (Rhodes, Kavala, Kozani, Vertiskos, and Thessaloniki), Wurzburg Germany, Florida (USA), Bursa and Ankara in Turkey and Melbourne, Australia.
In Kalavrita (Greece), where the International Course for Brass Instruments is held for 10 years now, he is the professor and the band conductor.
As soloist he has played in Greece, Turkey, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Checz Republic, Danville (Kentucky USA) and has acted jointly with other famous soloists. He was invited as a featured artist at the 2010 International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference in Sydney, Australia.
He has been a professor at the “Orfeo” Conservatoire of Athens since 1979.
