Friedemann Immer

Session: The Historic Brass Society: Our History and Future Plans

Friedemann Immer, born 1948 in Duisburg, Germany, is one of the well known Trumpeters in Music Life. He specialised during the seventies in the playing of the Baroque Trumpet and plays with orchestras all over the world, such as „Concentus Musicus Wien“, „Freiburg Baroque Orchestra“, „Academy of Ancient Music Berlin“, “Musica Antiqua Köln”, „la Stagione Frankfurt“, „Academy of Ancient Music London“, „Boston Baroque“, „Aston Magna USA“ etc. He worked with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Frans Brüggen, Thomas Hengelbrock, Ton Koopman, Philippe Herreweghe, Marcus Creed, Martin Pearlman, Ivor Bolton, Christopher Hogwood, Hellmuth Rilling etc. He has made more than 200 recordings of CD´s, LP´s and lots of Radio – and TV – recordings. This includes more than 10 recordings of J.S.Bach´s second Brandenburg Concerto on period instruments.

Friedemann Immer has played concerts for more than 45 years in all important centers and festivals for “Ancient Music” all over the world and continues to play today. He was invited – as a soloist and with his “Trompeten Consort Friedemann Immer” – to both “Historic Brass Symposiums” in Amherst (1995) and New York (2013) and to several ITG Conferences, the last one 2014 in Valley Forge/King of Prussia.

Friedemann Immer is the leader of the „Trompeten Consort Friedemann Immer“, which he founded in 1988. The ensemble is specialised in  ensemble–music for Trumpets with Timpany and Organ. He and other members of the ensemble have published under the name „Edition Immer“ – more than 200 pieces of music for Trumpets, other instruments, and singers from the Baroque era through Jazz with the publisher „Musikverlag Martin Schmid, Nagold“, Germany.

Friedemann Immer is Professor for Baroque Trumpet at the „Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln“, Germany. He taught 20 years at the “Sweelinck Conservatorium, Amsterdam”. Besides these activities he continues to give masterclasses all over the World.

Nowadays in Corona times he is teaching a lot via zoom/video, works on alternative possibilities to make music, like videos with chamber music groups etc. He also works on editing music, esp. music for Keyed Trumpet of the 1st half of the 19th century.
