Recital: Sounds of Siam with Paul Archibald

Prelude: Mahidol University Trumpet Ensemble

Over the course of his career, Paul Archibald has commissioned and performed many new works for solo trumpet, trumpet ensemble and brass ensemble. For His recital at ITG Minneapolis 2023, Paul has curated a program of music reflecting his passion for creating and performing new work.

Influenced by his experience as a solo and chamber musician and his work with composers and musicians in Thailand, Sounds of Siam introduces three world premieres by composers living in Thailand. These pieces have been commissioned specifically for the ITG conference in Minneapolis 2023.

Alongside these works is a trumpet trio with piano by Eric Ewazen commissioned for the ITG conference in Thailand in 2005 and a work composed for Paul’s group, International Celebrity Trumpet Ensemble, by one of the UK’s leading composers, Mark Anthony Turnage. The recital will be performed by Paul Archibald, Nitiphum Bamrungbanthum, Joe Bowman, Alongkorn Laosaichua and trumpet students from Mahidol University College of Music, Thailand

Paul also performs music by Henri Busser, an important composer from the French trumpet tradition, and a work by one of the UK’s leading composers, Cecilia McDowall, with whom Paul has worked closely over the course of his career.
