
Clément Saunier

Clément Saunier studied under Clement Garrec and Jens McManama at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP) where he won his first prizes in trumpet and chamber music.
His performances at international soloist competitions have earned him several major prizes in Porcia (Italy), Prague, Jeju (South Korea), Brussels, Paris “Maurice-André” and “Tchaikovsky” in Moscow.
In 2013, he joined the Ensemble intercontemporain with which he performed a large number of solo works and premieres from the repertoire for trumpet, including Hans Werner Henze’s Requiem, Richard Ayres’ NONcerto, Luciano Berio’s Sequenza X, Yan Maresz’s Metal Extensions and Metallics, Yann Robin’s Doppelgänger and Evil Twin, Liza Lim’s Wild Winged One at the Philharmonie de Paris, the Philharmonie de Cologne, Hamburg, Tokyo, Moscow and Berlin. He also notably performed the « sonic eclipse » cycle by Matthias Pintscher at the Berliner Festspiele, Tokyo Suntory Hall, New York Carnegie Hall, Geneva, and the Kölner Philharmonie.
He has made a number of albums, including several 20th-century concertos for trumpet and orchestra, released by Cristal Records, Maguelone and Corelia, as well as the album Directions, released on the Klarthe label, in which he performs works by Giacinto Scelsi, Toru Takemitsu, Peter Maxwell Davies…
In 2025, he will notably create the new concerto for trumpet and large ensemble by Hèctor Parra and the new piece for trumpet and live electronics by Jose Miguel Fernandez.
Clément Saunier teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon (CNSM) since 2021 and plays the instruments Antoine Courtois Confluence.
