Session: Rafael Méndez: A Tribute from Mexico

Alejandra Rosas Olvera was born in México City. She is a trumpet player from Vida y Movimiento School of Arts (Mexico City) and holds a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from UNAM, National Autonomous University of Mexico. She has worked in the field of cultural management in the organization and coordination of some musical activities, including the Rafael Méndez International Festival.

As a musician, she has a vast experience as a trumpeter in symphony orchestras and popular music groups. At present she is a trumpet professor in the Arts Center at the State of Morelos.

The first book she published, Fountain of Stories, was sponsored by FONCA (National Fund for Culture and the Arts) It is a collective work about the history of La Fama Montañesa, the neighborhood where she was born. In 2004, she got another grant from FONCA which allowed her to write the biography of the great trumpet player Rafael Méndez. It was published in 2016, and she has presented it at the most important music festivals in México, Guatemala and Perú.

Her intense activity on spreading the life of the legendary Rafael Méndez has given her the opportunity to appear in different media: television, newspapers and the Internet. In 2019, she participated in the International Women Brass Conference at Arizona State University with a conference about Rafael Méndez. She also offered a series of concerts invited by the Peruvian Brass Ensemble in the city of Miami, Florida.
