
Peter Wood
Pedagogical Innovations
Dr. Peter Wood has been teaching for over 30 years and currently serves as professor of trumpet at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile, where he has been recognized
with two prestigious teaching awards. Since 2013, Dr. Wood has also held the position of publications editor for the International Trumpet Guild, overseeing production of the ITG Journal and serving on the ITG board of directors. He recently launched a Trumpet Pedagogy YouTube channel, which aims to assist trumpet teachers and students worldwide.
Wood has taught and performed across four continents, encompassing a diverse range of musical settings. He is an active member of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and has released three CD recordings. He has showcased his talents at conferences held by the International Trumpet Guild, College Music Society, and Society of Electroacoustic Music in the United States. He has conducted master classes and delivered solo recitals at numerous colleges and universities throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia. As a soloist, he has performed at the Velika-Gorica Brass Festival in Croatia and the Nong Festival of Electroacoustic Music in Seoul, South Korea. He also teaches at the International Trumpet Symposium in Ronzo-Chienis, Italy, and has twice been an artist-in-residence at the Trento Conservatory in Italy.
Wood earned the Doctor of Music degree in trumpet performance at Indiana University-Bloomington, the Master of Music degree in trumpet performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the Bachelor of Science degree in music education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His primary trumpet teachers have been Patrick Dessent, Ray Sasaki, Michael Tunnell, John Aley, Edmund Cord, and Stephen Burns. Wood is a Conn-Selmer performing artist.
